Assalaamu'alaikum wr.

Firman Allah (subhanahu wata’ala) yang maksudnya;

(Surah al-A’raaf, ayat 205)

(Surah al-A’raaf, ayat 55)

“Wahai manusia!

Kedua-duanya menyembunyikan zikir, kecuali jika dia (imam) mahu mengajar orang lain. Maka imam mengeraskan suaranya, sehingga dia melihat orang telah mempelajari daripadanya. Kemudian dia merendah (memperlahankan) suaranya.”

(Kitab al-Umm, Jilid 1)

Imam an-Nawawi (rahimahullah), ketika mengulas kaedah-kaedah berzikir selepas solat berjemaah, juga bersetuju dengan kesimpulan Imam as-Syafi’i (rahimahullah). Rujuk al-Majmu’ Syarah al-Muhadzab.

(Kitab Fath ul-Baari, syarah Sahih Bukhari)

Baarakallahu fiikum.

Assalaamu'alaikum.

It wasn't that hard

Assalaamu'alaikum wr.

Alhamdulillah, I managed to go out and about in my abaya these past few days.
Thank you Allah for assisting me. :)

Went to causeway point in abaya yesterday and... i noticed that the ones who stares were those of our own race.. i wonder why.

Today i saw another sister in abaya at causeway point as well. Alhamdulillah..may Allah bless her.
Her abaya was beautiful though... it had this aqua blue sequins/crystals/sparkle thingy (i couldn't see..no specs.hehe) on it. really nice. heh.

I remember someone on my tagboard named 'teman' who requested for a post on 'bid'ah baca doa beramai- ramai'. I'll post that up tomorrow insyaAllah. Afwan for the late post. May Allah bless you for your patience. :)

Assalaamu'alaikum.

(al-Isra:36)

They can. Why not us?

Assalaamu'alaikum wr.
Korean fashion.
Ah, who's not familiar with this?
It's everywhere isn't it?
Those tight leggings, short pants, colourful accessories.
They're nice. I admit. But for us to wear? Hmm.

If it covers the aurah, why not?
Take note that covering aurah excludes those fitting leggings.
Hijab + leggings= NO.Tak boleh.

So.
These fashion trends...they're not originally from us Singaporeans.
Some people brought them here.
And im sure, when it first started out, people stare.

I remembered a few years back when those Japanese/Korean fashion trends just started out in Singapore..
People stared at those who wore those types of clothes like they were aliens.
But after some time, people don't mind.
Because they're used to it.

Hence, why more and more teens are wearing these kind of clothings. Because it has been accepted into our culture.
Be it for the non-Muslims or the Muslims.

When I was in CFS, i got used to wearing abaya outside even when i'm merely going to the shop to buy a carton of milk. Here, i felt odd.
Honestly, is it normal to see someone go to the wet market in abayas here?
Yep. Thought so.

But then i thought: Why feel odd? If the others can wear something that originated from somewhere else, that was once an odd sight, why can't I?
Sometimes, we tend to wait for others to do something and THEN we'd do it.
Why not WE take the first step?

Go walk around in Orchard Rd in abaya.
Go to Vivo city...Raffles Place...even Causeway Point for that matters in an abaya.
Shy? Why should we be?

People stare?
So?
Their stares don't kill us do they?

I know... It's hard to change the norm.
But the initial step is always like that. Once we've gone through the first stage, we're fine.
I did it.
I went down to the shops downstairs in my abaya.
Yes people stared. But they also showed respect. And that felt nice.
It shows that if we respect ourselves, others will respect us as well.

I have a friend, a Malaysian, who wore a jubah + purdah to KLCC.

She survived. I truly admire her for that (even if she was dared to do it)masyaAllah..
May Allah give me a stronger Iman insyaAllah.

Don't have abayas?
Its ok. Jubah is ok. Or even skirts with loose shirts.
I see many walk around with beautiful long skirts but their shirts..
Na'udzubillah min zaalik.
Even long loose shirts/tops with pants are fine. I like those Turkish/Jordan styles.

But their hijabs are short. That's their culture.Do you know that Muslim women in Turkey are banned from wearing hijab? And they were the first country(correct me if im wrong) to be under the Ottoman Empire. So sad.

Plus, when we wear these clothes(Jubah, abayas long skirts with LOOSE shirts, etc), we tend to refrain ourselves from improper actions. Ask anyone who wears jubah/abaya. They'll say the same thing.

And it's not oppressive, mind you. It potrays chastity, modesty, purity and faith. Its goooooooooooooooooooooooooood. AND it protects us from them:-

^_^v

If someone were to say it oppresses us from being ourselves, tell me this, is 'being ourselves' something good? Does it attract unwanted attention?
Is it with or against the teachings of the Quran and sunnah?
How can something beneficial and protective be oppressive?

Hence my brothers and sisters in Islam, let's bring Islamic clothes to our culture.
Let them be accepted.
If they can do it, why not us?

A mere thought of mine. A reminder for myself before others insyaAllah.
Do comment and correct any wrongs insyaAllah.
May Allah strengthen our Iman insyaAllah.
Wallahua'lam.

Assalaamu'alaikum.

Post yang lama tertunda

Assalaamu'alaikum wr.

Qur is a human.
Humans are forgetful.
Therefore Qur is forgetful.
heh.

Mak reminded me to blog about my life in CFS IIUM.
Oh, just to clear things for those who are still unclear, IIUM=UIAM (or UIA).
UIAM is the abbreviation for Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia.
IIUM stands for International Islamic University of Malaysia.
So its actually the same thing just in different languages. ^_^

I thank Allah for giving me the opportunity to experience CFS.
Truly, the things i faced, learned, saw, heard, sensed.. the people i met there were ...
priceless.

For instance, i found out that drinking 100 Plus (or any other isotonic drinks) helps reduce fever.heh. Maybe most of you already know that. hehe.

Also, every state in Malaysia actually has its own song.
For instance, Johor has its own song, Selangor has its own song..so does Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu etc2.

And i also learned a few words from my roommates.
One of it is 'tok sey'. (i don't know its actual spelling but that's how they say it.heh.
It means tak nak (kan?heh.)
Another is 'koya'. I can't remember exactly what it meant.haha.

So.
In July 2009 i was admitted to CFS (Centre for Foundation Studies; or Pusat Asasi in Malay..its like a Pre-U thingy.heh.) IIUM. Its easier to call it like that- CFS IIUM. Or just CFS would suffice.heh.

I took Human Sciences (HS).
Stayed in the room B2-1-3 for 2 semesters (or roughly 8 months).

I studies some core HS courses:-
  1. Basic Psychology
  2. Basic Communication
  3. Basic Sociology and Anthropology
  4. Basic History and Civilization
  5. Basic Political Science
  6. Contemporary Issues in The Muslim World
and also other subjects such as:-
  1. Basic Academic Writing
  2. Introduction to Islamic Revealed Knowledge
  3. Basic Themes of The Quran
  4. Religions in Malaysia
  5. Computer 1
and also English Level 6.Its the final level for English where we learn how to write proper argumentative essays, present, speak fluently etc. I studied this on the 1st sem.

Well. My first sem went well- after 2 months of homesick. hee.
My classmates were very nice. Most of them were seniors, a year older than me.
My lecturers were nice too- not just in class but outside as well.

I also had foreign friends... mostly from Kyrgyzstan.
HUH?where's that???
Here's a map of Kyrgyzstan.
(semangat tunjuk map lagi.haha.)Click to enlarge. ^_^
Just for your general knowledge.hehe.

From left, Aaliyah (Kyrgyz), me, Bermet (Kyrgyz), Olfa(Philippines), Amanbek (Kyrgyz). and the one in front is Uson (pronounced as Husein) also from Kyrgyzstan.

This was taken in the CFS library (sempat...huhu) when Bermet came to visit. She graduated during my after my first sem there. She's now in Gombak. Aaliyah is her friend- from Gombak.

I was one of the 2nd intake students.
2nd intake means we came a little later than the others who registered and were accepted on time.
They enrolled in June. Us, in July.
So, we missed a month worth of lectures.heh.

But Alhamdulillah, with help from Allah and the people He has sent to help me, I managed to pass every subject. ^_^v

My second sem was tougher...
The subjects are more challenging and requires a LOT of thinking.
I struggled.
But Alhamdulillah, i managed to pass all. :)

My classmates this sem are mostly the same age as I am.
And they're VERY smart- and talented as well.
It was fun though..they're very interactive and hyper.heh.

my classmates for Sem2 with our Critical Thinking lecturer, Xifu Naser.
(All the girls are wearing white scarves because it's Wednesday. Wajib pakai tudung putih.)
I also made a new friend: Halimah.
She's from Indonesia. Same age. But no, she's not a student.

She works at one of the stalls downstairs (my dorm is above a row of foodstalls.) selling keropok lekor.heh. Oh, and her cucur udang pun sedap.huhu.lama tak makan.
Such a sweet person...

I also went out twice with Hudzy this sem.
The first one was a kind of birthday treat. Dapat pergi zoo.hahaha.
Seriously.

See? Dapat pegang ular lagi. hee~(kepala ular tu gerak2..so..hehe)
It was all fun because...
Huda was driving. hehe.takdelah.

This sem, we had a LOT of pictures taken. For my class, because we have 2 photographers in the class and in our dorm, because we want to capture our final moments as dormmates together. ^_^v

So..
Im done with CFS.
InsyaAllah, later in July, I'll be going to IIUM main campus in Gombak, Selangor. (not KL. Selangor. for those who doesnt know.heh)

So yeah.
Thats preety much it.
I'll let the picture tell the rest of the story. :)
Assalaamu'alaikum.

Everyday food. Rice with- something (usually chicken).huhu. This isnt mine by the way.

Taken in C1-01 (nombor kelas). Basic Academic Writing. There were no chairs in the classroom so semua orang duduk atas lantai.hehe.

This is my TV space. Its on level 3. My room's in level 1. I've only been up there 3 times...
Once, to study (masa tu blackout kat bawah). Another time to watch Hindi movie.hehe.
And the third time to... uh...hmm..

L-R: Ekin, Wani, Hadrah, Kira, Me, Kak Eza.

Masa tu tengan line-up amek makanan. Sempat pula bergambar.hehe

Going to the masjid for tarawikh prayers. (sempat lagi amek gambar.huhu)

Going to class. Everyone had class that time. Every Monday, 2pm if im not wrong.huhu.(PUN sempat lagi amek gambar.haha)

Our 2nd last makan-makan. My roommates (excluding 2 people). Location: Pizza Hut.hehe

Walking back to our dorms after eating at Pizza Hut. (burn the extra calories.huhu)

Our last makan-makan before they left one by one. I was the last person to leave- as usual.huhu. Great times masyaAllah...
Ukhuwwah fillah abadan abada insyaAllah.

Road to Block C,classrooms.

End.

How are our brothers and sisters?

Assalaamu'alaikum wr.

In CFS, one of the many assignments I had to do was one about Muslim Minorities in Singapore.
This was for my Contemporary Issues in The Muslim World class.

The class was divided into groups and some of us had to do an assignment on various Muslim Minority countries..mostly in the Asia continent.
This includes Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia and Vietnam.
Being a Singaporean myself, i picked Singapore. I thought it would be easy chicken feet one. heh.

But finding resources was a trouble.
Books are limited and videos were... er... Let's just say i had to rely solely on reading articles.

While I was there, be it among the Malaysians or other foreign students, this question always pop up: How are the Muslims in Singapore living?

Being an ex-madrasah student, i replied based on what I experience.. based on my personal point of view.
But I'm aware that the other Muslim students, who are not studying in a Madrasah, has a different point of view. The challenges they face are different.
Even for the other Madrasah students, their point of view would be different based on their social circle.

And of course, i myself would ask them the same question. Don't you wonder how our Muslim brothers and sisters in Philippines, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine etc are living?
Getting the story first hand from them is much authentic then reading it somewhere else. (unless of course if they're lying, which i doubt.)

Hence, the assignment and little experience made me realize something..
I have not yet seen a documentary on Muslim..be it majority or minorities.
Maybe there is one out there but i do not yet know of. If you know any,do tell. :D

So yeah.
A documentary on Muslims.. where one Muslim brother or sister (or both) travels to a Muslim country and document their daily lives..daily challenges...what they do..the hardship they face...feel the ukhuwwah...share the experience.. MasyaAllah.. wouldn't that be great?

Rasulullah (saw) said, "The Muslims are like a body, if one part of the body hurts, rest of the body will also suffer." Meaning that the Muslims, whether they are of Chinese, African or Arabian or European origin, are one Ummah and they cannot be separated from each other.

So that's all for today i guess.
Assalaamu'alaikum. :)

:D

Assalaamu'alaikum wr.

Qur tanya tentang scholarship(al maklum, yuran UIA agak tinggi...cubaan dunia.insyaAllah kalau niat ikhlas lillahita'alaa, semuanya akan dipermudahkan.

Kelas ini agak intensif.. dari 8pagi hingga ke 5ptg.
Tapi, katanya sahaja mula pada jam 8...
jam 10 baru kelas bermula...

Kalau asyik begitu, tak hairanlah kalau masyarakat kita makin mundur... kan?

Kalau Qur silap, betulkan lah.. tapi..

hehe.

Di sini sahaja untuk hari ini,
Assalaamu'alaikum wr.
