Protect Me From Me

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Oh Allah I pray to Thee,
please, Allah, protect me from me;
the me that keeps asking,
demanding and wanting,
what I desire and not what I need.

Oh Allah to You I plead,
save me from this madness within,
the rage and conflict underneath my skin
between the pure soul
and the nafs which is cold,
between the need to please You,
and the desire of not wanting to.
I am weak 'cuz I lack Your light
and at times, the will to fight...

Without You oh Allah
I will not be able to.
 Please protect me from me;
bring me closer to You...

Amin

"mujahadah an-nafs"
Du'a alone is insufficient without effort. Fight your nafs. Just do it. ;)
Reminder to myself before others.

Allahua'laam.

The Best Gift You Can Give

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Assalaamu'alaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh

I am sure most of us have come across situations when we have absolutely no idea what to buy for our family members or friends for their birthday. Even if you don't celebrate birthdays, there must be a time when you feel like you just WANT to buy something for someone because you love/appreciate them so much and yet, you don't know what to buy- yes?

I was reading some facts about Emma Watson (yes, Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. heh) and came across a fact that made me go: "Ohhhhh........"

What is the fact you might ask?
Well, I can't recall the exact sentence but basically, she told her fans not to buy her anything for her birthday or as a christmas present. Instead, she told them to donate the money to those in need. (did it make you go: 'Ohhhhh' too?)

Then it dawned on me that this is a noble and virtuous thing to do especially for us Muslims.
Remember the hadith about the 3 things that will continuously benefit us even after we die?

Abu Hurayrah r.a reported that Rasulullah s.a.w said:

"When a human being dies, all of his deeds are terminated except for three types: an ongoing sadaqah, a knowledge (of Islaam) from which others benefit, and a righteous child who makes du'aa for him."
(Muslim)

Sadaqah. Yes.
Ok, so you might ask, but how can our charity benefit our friend if we give it as a gift for them?
Give the charity under your intendeds' name. Easy peasy. (atau bak kata Sherlock Holmes: It's elementary my dear Watson.)
Boleh kan? Eh, terbual melayu pula.

Well, this is just my personal opinion.. because sometimes, when we buy a material thing for someone, they might not like it/ use it. Besides, that thing might not last long. Yes, they are able to see it but, will it benefit them in a long run?

Meanwhile, a charity in their name will give them deeds/jazaa' not just here, but in the hereafter as well. There are different ways to make charity.. We can donate directly to funds (there are loads. Just pick one or all- kalau mampu lah.hehe) or buy a sajadah/fan/telekung for the mosque. That would be better would it not?

Allahua'laam. As I said, this is just my personal opinion.
Let's try to do this together inshaAllah.
Kita cuba dulu sama-sama ye? =)

Assalaamu'alaikum.
